I suppose some of you might not think this is a time for levity, but frankly I do even though - actually, because - the stock market is tanking and taking our hopes and dreams with it and there is apparently no one to take charge of the situation.

But we are all in this together and I thought it might be the time to share a couple of amusing stories, one from The New York Times and one from the BBC in Britian.

The NYT story, "When Life Hands you Lemons, Race Them," is about the LeMons which is a mock homage to the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race held each year in France:

"But unlike the gentlemanly Gallic race, LeMons is a 24-hour brawl and, more defining, nice cars are not welcome. The rules say that teams can spend no more than $500 on their vehicles before adding safety gear.

"So this is a race of junkers, and the one that lasts from Saturday to Sunday while turning the most laps is the winner, rewarded with a prize of $1,500 -- all of it in nickels."

The other story is from the BBC's popular TV show Top Gear starring Jeremy Clarkson who is the Motoring Correspondent, as they say in Britain, for the London Times.

This story, which is hilarious, follows Clarkson as he travels around London and the offices of the BBC in the Peel which he claims is the smallest car ever made.

And he's has got to be right despite my claim about Jim Adams' Isetta Bubble Car a few weeks ago. I mean, the Isetta may be small, but I do not think you could drive it around the office the way Clarkson drives the Peel in and out of elevators and along the corridors of the BBC.

Check it out here for a good laugh.

Pip pip!
