Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have crept higher for six straight weeks since the end of last year and are now approaching $2 a gallon, according to The Associated Press.

The average price of self-service regular is $1.97 a gallon, up 3 cents from a week ago, according to a survey released yesterday by the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources. The average price has risen 31 cents in the last six weeks.
