A new study by AAA finds that seven of the top 10 deadliest days of the year for teenage drivers occur between Memorial and Labor Day, with five in July alone, according to The New York Times.
The analysis was based on federal data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System for drivers and passengers from the ages of 13 to 19, for a five year period from 2005-9. The average number of teenage deaths during May, June, July and August was higher than that recorded during the other eight months.
Familes are encouraged to increase their focus on safety during the critical "school's out" period.
Several other organizations completed similar analyses in recent months. Although based on different age groups, years and types of crashes, the reports drew similar conclusions: more teenagers die during the summer.
